Sloppy Joe Filling

Vegan Provolone Cheese

For Assembly

Method

Sloppy Joe Filling

  1. 1

    Sauté Vegetables

In a large skillet, heat olive oil over medium heat. Add the diced onion and green bell pepper, and sauté for about 5 minutes until softened.

  2. 2

    Add Garlic and Mushrooms

Stir in the minced garlic and chopped mushrooms, cooking for an additional 3-4 minutes until mushrooms are tender.

  3. 3

    Combine Remaining Ingredients

Add the cooked lentils (or black beans), tomato sauce, Worcestershire sauce, brown sugar, smoked paprika, chili powder, salt, and black pepper. Stir to combine and bring to a simmer.

  4. 4

    Simmer

Reduce the heat to low and let the mixture simmer for about 10-15 minutes, stirring occasionally until thickened.

Vegan Provolone Cheese

  1. 5

    Blend Ingredients

In a blender, combine soaked cashews, nutritional yeast, lemon juice, garlic powder, salt, and water. Blend until smooth and creamy.

  2. 6

    Adjust Consistency

If the mixture is too thick, add a little more water until the desired consistency is reached.

Vegan Charred Chili Aioli

  1. 7

    Mix Aioli Ingredients

In a bowl, combine vegan mayonnaise, diced charred chili peppers, lime juice, minced garlic, and salt. Stir until well blended.

For Assembly

  1. 8

    Assemble the Sloppy McMess Face

To assemble, split the pretzel buns in half. Spread a generous amount of the Sloppy Joe filling on the bottom half, followed by the vegan provolone cheese and a drizzle of the charred chili aioli. Top with the other half of the pretzel bun and serve immediately.
