Preparing the Walleye

Prepare the Walleye
Rinse the walleye fillets under cold water and pat dry with paper towels.

Heat the Oil
In a large skillet, heat vegetable oil over medium-high heat until hot (approximately 350°F or 175°C).

Fry the Walleye
Carefully place the breaded walleye fillets in the hot oil, frying in batches to avoid overcrowding. Cook for about 4-5 minutes on each side or until golden brown and cooked through. Remove and drain on paper towels.
Assembling the Sandwich

Prepare the Onion
Slice the medium onion into thin rings.

Assemble the Sandwich
On a slice of rye bread, place a fried walleye fillet, add a few onion rings, and top with a generous dollop of tartar sauce. Cover with another slice of rye bread.

Serve
Repeat the assembly for the remaining fillets. Serve immediately with extra tartar sauce on the side.
