Cooking the Pasta

In a large pot, bring the water to a rolling boil over high heat. Add the salt to the boiling water.

Cook Spaghetti
Add the spaghetti to the boiling water and cook according to package instructions, usually around 8-10 minutes, until al dente. Stir occasionally to prevent sticking.

Once cooked, drain the spaghetti in a colander and set aside, reserving a small cup of pasta water if needed for the sauce.

In a large skillet, heat the olive oil over medium heat. Add the chopped onion, garlic, diced carrot, and diced celery. Sauté for about 5 minutes or until the vegetables are softened.

Add the ground beef to the skillet. Break it apart with a wooden spoon and cook until browned, about 7-10 minutes.

Stir in the tomato paste, canned diced tomatoes, beef broth, oregano, salt, and black pepper. Bring to a simmer and let cook for 15-20 minutes, stirring occasionally.
