Method

Preparation of Mushrooms

  1. 1

    Clean the Mushrooms

Rinse the button mushrooms under cold water to remove any dirt. Pat them dry with a paper towel.

  2. 2

    Trim Stems

Trim the stems of the mushrooms if they are too long, leaving about a quarter-inch stem for better handling while frying.

Batter Preparation

  1. 3

    Mix Dry Ingredients

In a large mixing bowl, combine the all-purpose flour, cornstarch, baking powder, salt, and black pepper. Whisk together until well combined.

  2. 4

    Add Wet Ingredients

Add the Irish stout beer and the egg to the dry mixture. Whisk until the batter is smooth and free of lumps. Let it rest for about 15 minutes.

Frying

  1. 5

    Heat Oil

In a large, deep frying pan or a pot, pour in the vegetable oil. Heat the oil to 350°F (175°C) over medium-high heat.

  2. 6

    Coat Mushrooms

Dip each mushroom into the batter, ensuring they are fully coated.

  3. 7

    Fry Mushrooms

Carefully place the battered mushrooms into the hot oil in batches. Fry for about 3-4 minutes or until they are golden brown and crispy.

  4. 8

    Drain Excess Oil

Using a slotted spoon, remove the fried mushrooms from the oil and place them on a plate lined with paper towels to drain the excess oil.

Serving

  1. 9

    Garnish

If desired, sprinkle with freshly chopped parsley and serve with lemon wedges on the side.

  2. 10

    Enjoy

Serve immediately while hot and crispy for the best taste.
