Method

Pasta Preparation

  1. 1

    Cook the Macaroni

In a large pot, bring 4 quarts of salted water to a boil. Add the elbow macaroni and cook according to package instructions until al dente, usually about 8-10 minutes. Drain and set aside.

Cheese Sauce Preparation

  1. 2

    Make the Roux

In a medium saucepan, melt the butter over medium heat. Once melted, add the all-purpose flour and whisk continuously for about 2 minutes until the mixture is bubbly and golden.

  2. 3

    Add Milk

Slowly whisk in the milk, ensuring there are no lumps. Continue to cook, stirring frequently, until the mixture thickens and starts to bubble, about 5-7 minutes.

  3. 4

    Incorporate Cheese

Reduce the heat to low and gradually add the cheddar cheese and cream cheese, stirring until completely melted and smooth. Season with salt, black pepper, and paprika.

Combine and Serve

  1. 5

    Mix Macaroni and Cheese Sauce

Add the cooked macaroni to the cheese sauce and stir until well combined. Ensure the pasta is thoroughly coated in the creamy cheese sauce.

  2. 6

    Optional Topping

If desired, preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). In a small bowl, mix the breadcrumbs, parmesan cheese, and chopped parsley. Sprinkle this mixture over the mac and cheese in a baking dish.

  3. 7

    Bake

Bake in the preheated oven for 20-25 minutes or until the top is golden brown and crispy.

  4. 8

    Serve

Remove from the oven and let it cool for a few minutes. Serve warm and enjoy your hearty mac & cheese!
