Method

Pickles Preparation

  1. 1

    Drain and Pat Dry

Begin by draining the dill pickle slices from the jar. Lay them out on paper towels and pat them dry to remove excess moisture.

Batter Preparation

  1. 2

    Mix Dry Ingredients

In a large bowl, whisk together the all-purpose flour, cornstarch, baking powder, garlic powder, onion powder, cayenne pepper, salt, and black pepper until evenly combined.

  2. 3

    Combine with Buttermilk

Gradually add the buttermilk to the dry ingredients, whisking until the batter is smooth and thick. Let the batter sit for about 10 minutes.

Frying

  1. 4

    Heat Oil

In a large, heavy-bottomed pot or deep fryer, heat the vegetable oil over medium-high heat until it reaches 350°F (175°C). Use a deep-fry thermometer to check the temperature.

  2. 5

    Coat Pickles

Dip each dill pickle slice into the batter, ensuring it is fully coated. Allow excess batter to drip off.

  3. 6

    Fry Pickles

Carefully place the battered pickles into the hot oil, working in batches to avoid overcrowding. Fry for 2-3 minutes or until golden brown and crispy.

  4. 7

    Drain Excess Oil

Using a slotted spoon, remove the fried pickles from the oil and transfer them to a plate lined with paper towels to drain excess oil.

Serving

  1. 8

    Serve Warm

Serve the fried pickles warm with ranch dressing for dipping.
