Method

Preparing the Patty

  1. 1

    Mix the Ingredients

In a mixing bowl, combine the ground beef, salt, black pepper, and garlic powder. Mix gently with your hands until just combined. Avoid overmixing to keep the burger tender.

  2. 2

    Form the Patties

Divide the mixture into two equal portions. Shape each portion into a patty that is about 3/4 inch thick and slightly larger than your burger bun, as it will shrink during cooking.

Cooking the Burger

  1. 3

    Preheat the Grill or Skillet

Heat your grill or skillet over medium-high heat. If using a skillet, add a little oil to prevent sticking.

  2. 4

    Cook the Patties

Once hot, place the patties on the grill or skillet. Cook for about 4-5 minutes on one side without pressing down on them.

  3. 5

    Flip and Cook Through

Flip the patties and cook for another 4-5 minutes, or until the internal temperature reaches 160°F (71°C) for medium doneness.

  4. 6

    Add Cheese (Optional)

If adding cheese, place a slice on top of each patty during the last minute of cooking and cover to melt.

Assembling the Burger

  1. 7

    Prepare the Bun

Toast the burger bun lightly on the grill or in a toaster if desired.

  2. 8

    Assemble the Burger

Place the cooked patty on the bottom half of the bun. Top with lettuce, tomato, onion rings, pickles, and any condiments like ketchup and mustard according to your preference.

  3. 9

    Serve

Place the top half of the bun on the assembled burger. Serve immediately with your choice of sides.
