Cookie Layer Preparation

Cream Butter and Sugars
In a large mixing bowl, beat together the softened unsalted butter, granulated sugar, and brown sugar until light and fluffy.

Add Egg and Vanilla
Add the egg and vanilla extract to the mixture and beat until well combined.

Mix Dry Ingredients
In another bowl, whisk together the all-purpose flour, baking soda, and salt.

Combine Mixtures
Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet mixture, mixing until just combined.

Fold in Chocolate Chips
Fold in the chocolate chips until evenly distributed.

Assemble Layers
Once the brownie layer is baked, remove from the oven and spoon the cookie dough over the top, spreading it evenly.

Bake Brookie
Return the pan to the oven and bake for an additional 25-30 minutes, or until the cookie layer is golden brown and a toothpick comes out clean from the cookie layer.

Cool and Serve
Allow the brookie to cool in the pan for at least 30 minutes before cutting into squares and serving.
