Directions

  1. 1

    Prepare the Custard

In a large mixing bowl, whisk together eggs, heavy cream, milk, sugar, vanilla extract, and a pinch of salt until well combined.

  2. 2

    Soak the Bread

Place the Texas toast slices in a shallow dish and pour the custard mixture over the bread. Let it soak for at least 30 minutes, turning occasionally to ensure all sides are soaked.

  3. 3

    Cook the French Toast

Heat a non-stick skillet or griddle over medium heat. Cook the soaked bread slices for about 4-5 minutes on each side, or until golden brown.

  4. 4

    Brulee the Top

Once cooked, place the French toast slices on a baking sheet. Sprinkle a thin layer of brown sugar on top of each slice. Use a kitchen torch to caramelize the sugar until it forms a hard crust. If you don’t have a torch, you can place them under a broiler for a minute or two, watching closely.

  5. 5

    Serve

Serve the bruleed French toast warm, topped with fresh strawberries, a dollop of whipped cream, and a drizzle of maple syrup.
