1

Prepare glass

Chill a coupe or martini glass by filling it with ice and cold water; set aside while you mix the drink.

2

Combine ingredients

In a cocktail shaker add 2 oz Tanqueray No. Ten, 0.75 oz fresh lime juice, 0.5 oz fresh grapefruit juice, and 0.5 oz simple syrup.

3

Add ice and shake

Add the measured ice (about 1 cup) to the shaker. Secure the lid and shake vigorously for 12–15 seconds, until the shaker is very cold and condensation forms.

4

Prepare serving glass

Discard ice and water from the chilled glass. If you prefer, rinse the glass with a tiny splash of cold gin and discard; this adds aroma but is optional.

5

Double-strain and serve

Double-strain the shaken cocktail into the chilled coupe or martini glass using a Hawthorne strainer and a fine mesh strainer to remove ice shards and pulp for a clean, silky texture.

6

Garnish

Express the oils of a grapefruit twist over the drink by holding the twist skin-side down over the glass and giving it a firm pinch; run the twist around the rim and drop it into the drink or place a thin wheel on the surface.

7

Serve immediately and enjoy. The recipe yields one cocktail.
