Method

Cocktail

Combine

Fill a mixing glass or a short stirring vessel with large ice cubes. Add 1 oz gin, 1 oz Campari, and 1 oz sweet vermouth.

Stir

Using a bar spoon, stir the mixture briskly but smoothly for about 20–30 seconds (roughly 20–30 full turns) until well chilled and slightly diluted — the glass should feel very cold and the liquid should be clear and slightly viscous.

Prepare glass

Place one large ice cube or ice sphere into a chilled old-fashioned (rocks) glass.

Strain

Strain the stirred cocktail into the prepared glass over the large ice cube.

Garnish

Express the oils from an orange peel over the surface by holding the peel over the drink with the outer skin facing down and giving it a quick twist. Rub the peel around the glass rim, then drop the peel into the drink as garnish.
