Fried Pickles

Method

Preparation

  1. 1

    Prepare the Brine

If using homemade pickles, ensure they are brined properly and ready. Otherwise, use store-bought pickles.

  2. 2

    Prepare the Dipping Sauce

In a small bowl, mix together 1/2 cup of mayonnaise, 1 tablespoon of mustard, and 1 tablespoon of chopped fresh dill. Adjust seasoning with salt and pepper to taste. Set aside.

  3. 3

    Batter the Pickles

In a medium bowl, whisk together flour, cornmeal, salt, and pepper. In another bowl, beat the eggs and then mix in the buttermilk.

  4. 4

    Coat the Pickles

Dip each pickle slice first into the egg mixture, then into the flour mixture, ensuring they are well-coated.

  5. 5

    Fry the Pickles

Heat vegetable oil in a deep skillet or fryer over medium-high heat. Once hot, carefully add the coated pickles in batches, frying until golden brown (about 2-3 minutes per side). Remove and drain on paper towels.

  6. 6

    Serve

Serve the fried pickles hot with the dill mustard mayo dipping sauce on the side.
