For the Tofu Tataki

Method

Preparation and Cooking

  1. 1

    Prepare the Tofu

Press the tofu for at least 30 minutes to remove excess moisture. Once pressed, cut the tofu into 1-inch thick slabs.

  2. 2

    Marinate the Tofu

In a bowl, combine soy sauce, sesame oil, rice vinegar, grated ginger, and minced garlic. Add the tofu slabs to the marinade and let sit for at least 15 minutes.

  3. 3

    Cook the Tofu

Heat a non-stick pan or shared fryer over medium-high heat. Remove tofu from the marinade (reserve marinade) and place in the hot pan. Sear each side for about 3-4 minutes until golden brown.

  4. 4

    Glaze the Tofu

Once cooked, pour the reserved marinade over the tofu in the pan and let it simmer for an additional 2-3 minutes to glaze.

  5. 5

    Serve

Remove the tofu from the pan and let it cool slightly. Slice into thin pieces, arrange on a plate, and garnish with sliced green onions and toasted sesame seeds. Season with sea salt to taste.
