Directions

  1. 1

    Prepare the Onions

Slice the medium onion into thin rings. In a skillet, melt 1 tablespoon of butter over medium heat and add the onions. Sauté until they are golden brown and caramelized, about 10-15 minutes. Season with salt and pepper to taste.

  2. 2

    Cook the Beef Patty

In the same skillet, add the sirloin beef patty and cook for 3-4 minutes on each side or until it reaches your desired doneness. Season with salt and pepper.

  3. 3

    Melt the Cheese

Once the beef patty is cooked, place the Swiss and American cheese slices on top of the patty. Cover the skillet with a lid for 1-2 minutes to melt the cheese.

  4. 4

    Toast the Bread

While the cheese is melting, spread butter on one side of each slice of rye bread. In a separate skillet or griddle, toast the rye bread until golden brown on both sides.

  5. 5

    Assemble the St. Patty Melt

On the unbuttered side of one slice of toasted rye bread, place the beef patty with melted cheese, followed by the sautéed onions. Top with the second slice of toasted rye bread, buttered side up.

  6. 6

    Grill the Sandwich

Place the assembled sandwich back in the skillet over medium heat. Grill for about 2-3 minutes on each side until the bread is crispy and golden brown.

  7. 7

    Serve

Remove from skillet, cut in half, and serve hot. Enjoy your St. Patty Melt!
