Preparation

  1. 1

    Prepare the Apples

Peel, core, and chop the gala apples into small pieces. In a skillet, melt the butter over medium heat. Add the chopped apples and brown sugar, cooking until the apples are soft and caramelized, about 8-10 minutes. Remove from heat and set aside.

  2. 2

    Prepare the Baguette

Slice the baguette into 1-inch thick slices. Arrange them in a single layer on a baking sheet and lightly toast them in a preheated oven at 350°F (175°C) for about 5 minutes until slightly crispy.

  3. 3

    Mix the Custard

In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the eggs, milk, vanilla extract, and ground cinnamon until well combined.

Assembly

  1. 4

    Combine Ingredients

Arrange half of the toasted baguette slices in a greased baking dish. Pour half of the egg mixture over the slices, then add the caramelized apple mixture evenly over them. Top with the remaining baguette slices and pour the remaining egg mixture over everything.

Baking

  1. 5

    First Bake

Cover the baking dish with foil and bake in the preheated oven at 350°F (175°C) for 30 minutes. Remove the foil and bake for an additional 15-20 minutes until the top is golden brown.

  2. 6

    Cool and Serve

Once baked, remove from the oven and let it cool for about 10 minutes. Dust with powdered sugar before serving. Slice and serve warm, garnished with additional chopped pecans if desired.
