Bacon Jam Preparation

Cook the Bacon
In a large skillet over medium heat, cook the bacon until crispy. Remove from the skillet and drain on paper towels. Reserve some of the bacon fat in the skillet.

Combine Ingredients
Add the minced garlic, brown sugar, apple cider vinegar, bourbon, black pepper, and salt to the skillet. Stir to combine.

Simmer the Jam
Chop the cooked bacon and add it back to the skillet. Bring the mixture to a simmer and cook on low heat for 30-40 minutes, stirring occasionally, until thickened.

Cool and Store
Once thickened, remove from heat and let the bacon jam cool. Store in an airtight container in the refrigerator. It can be made ahead of time.

Cook the Bacon
In a skillet, cook the applewood-smoked bacon until crispy and set aside on paper towels to drain.

Toast the Bread (Optional)
Toast the walnut wheat bread slices lightly if desired.

Assemble the Sandwich
On one slice of bread, spread a generous amount of the bourbon bacon jam. Layer with lettuce, sliced tomatoes, and the crispy applewood-smoked bacon. Top with another slice of bread.

Serve
Cut the sandwich in half and serve immediately, with extra bacon jam on the side if desired.
