Mornay Sauce

Method

Mornay Sauce Preparation

  1. 1

    Make the Roux

In a medium saucepan, melt the butter over medium heat. Once melted, add the flour and whisk continuously for about 2 minutes until it forms a paste and turns a light golden color.

  2. 2

    Add Milk

Gradually whisk in the milk, ensuring there are no lumps. Continue to cook on medium heat, stirring often, until the mixture thickens and coats the back of a spoon, approximately 5-7 minutes.

  3. 3

    Incorporate Cheese and Seasonings

Remove the saucepan from the heat and stir in the shredded cheddar cheese until melted and smooth. Add salt, black pepper, and nutmeg, then mix well. Set aside.

Assembly and Cooking

  1. 4

    Bake Tater Tots

Preheat your oven to 425°F (220°C). Spread the frozen tater tots on a baking sheet in a single layer and bake according to package instructions, typically around 25-30 minutes, or until crispy and golden brown.

  2. 5

    Combine Ingredients

Once the tater tots are done baking, remove them from the oven and lower the temperature to 350°F (175°C). In a large mixing bowl, combine the diced roasted turkey, diced tomatoes, and crumbled bacon.

  3. 6

    Layer the Dish

In a baking dish, layer half of the baked tater tots, followed by the turkey mixture, and then pour half of the mornay sauce over the top. Add the remaining tater tots and finish with the rest of the mornay sauce.

  4. 7

    Bake Again

Place the assembled dish back in the oven and bake for an additional 15-20 minutes, or until everything is heated through and the top is bubbly.

  5. 8

    Garnish and Serve

Remove from the oven and let it cool slightly. Garnish with chopped fresh parsley before serving.
