Method

Cake Preparation

  1. 1

    Preheat the Oven

Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour two 9-inch round cake pans.

  2. 2

    Mix Dry Ingredients

In a large bowl, sift together the all-purpose flour, granulated sugar, baking powder, and salt.

  3. 3

    Cream Butter and Sugar

In another bowl, beat the unsalted butter until smooth. Gradually add the granulated sugar and continue to beat until light and fluffy.

  4. 4

    Add Eggs and Vanilla

Add the eggs one at a time, beating well after each addition. Then stir in the vanilla extract.

  5. 5

    Combine Mixtures

Gradually add the dry ingredients to the butter mixture, alternating with the milk. Begin and end with the flour mixture. Mix until just combined.

  6. 6

    Bake the Cakes

Divide the batter evenly between the prepared cake pans. Bake in the preheated oven for 25-30 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.

  7. 7

    Cool the Cakes

Once baked, remove the cakes from the oven and let them cool in the pans for 10 minutes. Then transfer them to a wire rack to cool completely.

Frosting Preparation

  1. 8

    Beat the Butter

In a large bowl, beat the unsalted butter until smooth and creamy.

  2. 9

    Add Sugar and Cream

Gradually add the powdered sugar and beat on low until incorporated. Then add the heavy cream and vanilla extract, and beat until fluffy.

Assembly

  1. 10

    Layer the Cakes

Once the cakes are completely cool, place one layer on a serving plate. Spread a layer of frosting on top.

  2. 11

    Add Second Layer

Place the second cake layer on top of the frosted layer and cover the top and sides of the cake with the remaining frosting.

  3. 12

    Decorate (Optional)

Top the cake with fresh berries, chocolate shavings, or sprinkles as desired.
