Mac and Cheese Ingredients

Method

Cooking Directions

  1. 1

    Cook the Pasta

In a large pot of boiling salted water, cook the elbow macaroni according to package instructions until al dente. Drain and set aside.

  2. 2

    Make the Cheese Sauce

In the same pot, melt the butter over medium heat. Stir in the flour and cook for 1-2 minutes to form a roux. Gradually whisk in the milk, and continue to whisk until the mixture thickens.

  3. 3

    Add Cheese and Seasoning

Remove the pot from heat and stir in the shredded cheddar cheese, salt, black pepper, and paprika until the cheese is melted and the sauce is smooth.

  4. 4

    Combine Pasta and Sauce

Add the cooked macaroni to the cheese sauce, stirring until fully combined and coated.

  5. 5

    Optional Breadcrumb Topping

If using, sprinkle the breadcrumbs over the top of the mac and cheese. You can also add some extra shredded cheese on top for a golden finish.

  6. 6

    Bake the Dish

Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Transfer the mac and cheese to a baking dish, and bake for 20-25 minutes until bubbly and golden on top.

  7. 7

    Serve

Let cool for a few minutes, serve warm, and enjoy your homemade mac and cheese!
