Ladyfingers

Mascarpone Cream

Method

Preparing Ladyfingers

  1. 1

    Brew the Espresso

Brew 1 cup of strong espresso coffee and let it cool to room temperature.

  2. 2

    Mix Coffee and Liqueur

In a shallow dish, combine the cooled espresso with the coffee liqueur (if using).

Making Mascarpone Cream

  1. 3

    Separate Eggs

Separate the egg yolks and whites into two different bowls.

  2. 4

    Whip Egg Yolks

In the bowl with the egg yolks, add granulated sugar and whisk until pale and creamy.

  3. 5

    Add Mascarpone

Add the mascarpone cheese and vanilla extract to the egg yolk mixture and mix until smooth.

  4. 6

    Whip Egg Whites

In a separate bowl, beat the egg whites until stiff peaks form.

  5. 7

    Fold in Egg Whites

Gently fold the whipped egg whites into the mascarpone mixture until just combined.

  6. 8

    Whip the Cream

In another bowl, whip the heavy cream until soft peaks form.

  7. 9

    Combine Cream

Fold the whipped heavy cream into the mascarpone mixture until well combined.

Assembling the Tiramisu

  1. 10

    Soak Ladyfingers

Quickly dip each ladyfinger into the coffee mixture, ensuring they are soaked but not soggy.

  2. 11

    Layer Ingredients

In a rectangular dish, layer half of the soaked ladyfingers at the bottom.

  3. 12

    Add Cream Layer

Spread half of the mascarpone cream mixture over the soaked ladyfingers.

  4. 13

    Repeat Layers

Repeat the soaking of the remaining ladyfingers and layer them on top of the mascarpone cream.

  5. 14

    Finish with Cream

Spread the remaining mascarpone cream on top of the second layer of ladyfingers.

Chilling and Serving

  1. 15

    Chill

Cover the dish with plastic wrap and refrigerate for at least 4 hours, preferably overnight.

  2. 16

    Dust with Cocoa

Before serving, dust the top layer with cocoa powder and garnish with dark chocolate shavings if desired.

  3. 17

    Serve

Slice and serve chilled. Enjoy your homemade Tiramisu!
