Method

Preparation

  1. 1

    Preheat the Oven

Preheat your oven to 425°F (220°C). Grease four ramekins with butter and dust with cocoa powder to prevent sticking.

  2. 2

    Melt the Chocolate and Butter

In a medium saucepan, melt the unsalted butter and semi-sweet chocolate together over low heat, stirring frequently until smooth. Remove from heat and let it cool slightly.

Mixing the Batter

  1. 3

    Combine Dry Ingredients

In a bowl, whisk together the all-purpose flour, granulated sugar, unsweetened cocoa powder, baking powder, and salt until well mixed.

  2. 4

    Mix Wet Ingredients

In a separate bowl, whisk together the eggs and vanilla extract until combined.

  3. 5

    Combine Everything

Slowly pour the melted chocolate mixture into the egg mixture, stirring constantly to avoid cooking the eggs. Then, gradually fold in the dry ingredients until just combined.

Baking

  1. 6

    Fill the Ramekins

Divide the batter evenly among the prepared ramekins, filling them about 3/4 full.

  2. 7

    Bake

Place the ramekins on a baking sheet and bake in the preheated oven for about 12-14 minutes, until the edges are firm but the center is still soft.

Serving

  1. 8

    Cool and Serve

Remove the ramekins from the oven and let them cool for 1 minute. Carefully run a knife around the edges, then invert onto plates. Dust with powdered sugar and serve warm with vanilla ice cream.
