Method
Preparation Instructions
- 1
Make the Biscuit Dough
In a large bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, baking soda, and salt. Cut in the butter until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs. Stir in the buttermilk until just combined.
- 2
Shape the Bonuts
Turn dough onto a floured surface and knead gently. Pat into a 1-inch thick rectangle and cut into rounds using a biscuit cutter. Use a smaller cutter to create holes in the center.

- 4
Fry the Bonuts
Heat oil in a deep skillet over medium heat. Dip each biscuit round into the French toast batter, allowing excess to drip off, and carefully place in hot oil. Fry until golden brown on both sides, about 2-3 minutes per side. Remove and drain on paper towels.
- 5
Prepare the Strawberries and Whipped Cream
Slice fresh strawberries and set aside. In a mixing bowl, whip the heavy cream until soft peaks form. Add sugar and continue whipping until stiff peaks form.
- 6
Assemble the Bonuts
Dust the fried bonuts with powdered sugar. Top with sliced strawberries and a dollop of whipped cream. Serve immediately.
