Hashbrown Ingredients

Method

Hashbrown Directions

  1. 1

    Prepare the Potatoes

Peel and grate the russet potatoes using a box grater or food processor. Place the grated potatoes in a bowl of cold water and let them soak for about 10 minutes to remove excess starch.

  2. 2

    Drain and Dry

After soaking, drain the grated potatoes and spread them out on a clean kitchen towel. Pat them dry thoroughly to remove as much moisture as possible.

  3. 3

    Sauté the Onion

Finely chop the onion and sauté it in a large skillet over medium heat with a tablespoon of butter until translucent, about 3-4 minutes. Remove from the skillet and set aside.

  4. 4

    Cook the Hashbrowns

In the same skillet, heat the vegetable oil over medium-high heat. Add the grated potatoes, salt, and pepper. Press them down firmly into an even layer. Cook for about 5-7 minutes until the bottom is golden brown.

  5. 5

    Flip and Finish

Carefully flip the hashbrown using a large spatula. Add the sautéed onions and remaining butter to the top. Cook for another 5-7 minutes until the other side is golden brown and crispy.

  6. 6

    Serve

Remove from heat, cut into wedges, and serve hot with your choice of ketchup or sour cream.
