Method

Preparing Fish

  1. 1

    Season the Fish

Sprinkle salt and black pepper evenly over the haddock fillets. Let them sit for about 15 minutes to absorb the flavors.

Making Curry Beer Batter

  1. 2

    Mix Dry Ingredients

In a large bowl, whisk together all-purpose flour, cornstarch, curry powder, baking powder, and salt.

  2. 3

    Add Liquids

Slowly pour in the beer and ice water, whisking until you achieve a smooth batter. Let it sit for about 10 minutes.

Preparing Tartar Sauce

  1. 4

    Mix Ingredients

In a small bowl, combine mayonnaise, dill pickles, capers, lemon juice, salt, and black pepper. Stir well and refrigerate until serving.

Making Coleslaw

  1. 5

    Combine Ingredients

In a large bowl, mix the shredded cabbage and grated carrots.

  2. 6

    Add Dressing

In another bowl, combine mayonnaise, apple cider vinegar, salt, and black pepper. Pour the dressing over the cabbage mixture and toss well to coat. Refrigerate until serving.

Preparing French Fries

  1. 7

    Fry Potatoes

In a deep pot or fryer, heat vegetable oil to 350°F (175°C). Add the cut potatoes in batches and fry until golden brown and crispy, about 5-7 minutes. Remove and drain on paper towels. Season with salt.

Frying Fish

  1. 8

    Heat Oil

In a large pot or deep fryer, heat oil to 350°F (175°C).

  2. 9

    Batter the Fish

Dip each seasoned haddock fillet into the curry beer batter, allowing excess to drip off.

  3. 10

    Fry the Fish

Carefully place the battered fish fillets into the hot oil and fry until golden brown and crispy, about 4-5 minutes per side. Remove and drain on paper towels.

Serving

  1. 11

    Plate the Dish

On a serving plate, arrange the fried fish, alongside a serving of French fries, coleslaw, and a dollop of tartar sauce.
