Method

Preparing the Patty

  1. 1

    Form the Patties

In a large bowl, combine the ground beef, salt, and black pepper. Form the mixture into two equal-sized patties, about ¾ inch thick.

  2. 2

    Cook the Patties

Preheat a grill or skillet over medium-high heat. Once hot, add the patties and cook for about 4-5 minutes on each side for medium-rare, or longer if desired.

Preparing the Toppings

  1. 3

    Slice the Vegetables

While the patties are cooking, slice the tomato and onion into rings. Rinse the lettuce leaves and set aside.

  2. 4

    Melt the Cheese

In the last minute of cooking, place a slice of cheese on each patty. Cover with a lid to help the cheese melt.

Assembling the Burger

  1. 5

    Prepare the Buns

Toast the burger buns on the grill or in a toaster until golden brown.

  2. 6

    Build Your Burger

On the bottom half of each toasted bun, add a lettuce leaf, followed by the cooked patty with melted cheese, slices of tomato, and onion. Add ketchup and mustard to taste, then top with the other half of the bun.
