Method

Beef Patty Preparation

  1. 1

    Prepare the Beef Patty

In a bowl, combine ground beef, salt, black pepper, and garlic powder. Mix gently and form into four equal-sized patties. Make a slight indentation in the center of each patty to prevent puffing during cooking.

  2. 2

    Cook the Beef Patties

Preheat a grill or skillet over medium-high heat. Cook the patties for about 4-5 minutes on each side for medium-rare or until desired doneness is reached.

Bacon Preparation

  1. 3

    Cook the Bacon

In a skillet, cook the thick-cut bacon over medium heat until crispy. Drain on paper towels and set aside.

Onion Jam Preparation

  1. 4

    Make the Onion Jam

Slice the yellow onions thinly. In a saucepan over medium heat, add olive oil and the sliced onions. Cook until soft and translucent, about 10 minutes. Add brown sugar and balsamic vinegar, and continue to cook for another 10-15 minutes until thickened and caramelized. Set aside.

Crispy Onion Rings Preparation

  1. 5

    Prepare the Onion Rings

Slice the large yellow onion into rings. Soak the rings in buttermilk for at least 30 minutes.

  2. 6

Coat and Fry the Onion Rings

In a bowl, mix flour, cornstarch, salt, and black pepper. Remove the onion rings from the buttermilk and coat them in the flour mixture. Heat oil in a deep skillet over medium-high heat. Fry the onion rings in batches until golden brown, about 3-4 minutes. Drain on paper towels.

Assembly

  1. 7

    Assemble the Burger

Toast the pretzel buns on the grill or in the oven. Start with the bottom bun, add the lettuce, followed by the beef patty, crispy bacon, onion jam, and a slice of cheddar cheese. Top with crispy onion rings and add the top bun. Serve immediately.
