Prepare the Batter
In a mixing bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, sugar, and salt. In another bowl, mix the milk, egg, and melted butter. Combine the wet and dry ingredients until just mixed. Do not overmix.

Cook the Pancakes or Waffles
For pancakes: Heat a non-stick skillet or griddle over medium heat. Pour 1/4 cup of batter onto the skillet for each pancake. Cook until bubbles appear on the surface, then flip and cook until golden brown, about 2-3 minutes per side. For waffles: Preheat your waffle iron and pour the batter according to your waffle iron's instructions.
