Prepare Rice
- 1
Cook the Rice
Rinse the rice under cold water until the water runs clear. In a pot, combine 2 cups of rice with 4 cups of water. Bring to a boil, then reduce heat to low, cover, and simmer for about 15-20 minutes, or until the rice is tender and water is absorbed.

Prepare Chicken/Steak/Shrimp
If using chicken or steak, slice it into thin strips. Heat a skillet over medium-high heat, add a tablespoon of oil, and cook the protein of your choice until fully cooked (chicken should be cooked to 165°F, steak should be browned and to your preference, and shrimp should be pink and opaque). This will take about 5-7 minutes.
Cook Vegetables

Make Teriyaki Sauce
- 4
Prepare the Sauce
In a small bowl, whisk together the soy sauce, brown sugar, rice vinegar, minced garlic, grated ginger, cornstarch, and water until smooth. Pour the sauce into the skillet with the cooked protein and vegetables, stirring to combine. Cook for an additional 2-3 minutes until the sauce thickens.
Assemble the Bowl
- 5
Serve Teriyaki Bowl
In a bowl, place a serving of rice at the bottom, top it with the teriyaki chicken, steak, or shrimp mixture, and drizzle with extra sauce if desired. Garnish with sesame seeds and sliced green onions.
