Cake Layers

Chocolate Ganache

Method

Cake Layers

  1. 1

    Preheat Oven

Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour two 9-inch round cake pans.

  2. 2

    Mix Dry Ingredients

In a large bowl, combine flour, granulated sugar, cocoa powder, baking powder, baking soda, and salt. Whisk until well mixed.

  3. 3

    Add Wet Ingredients

Add eggs, milk, vegetable oil, and vanilla extract to the dry ingredients. Mix on medium speed until well combined. Gradually stir in boiling water until the batter is smooth.

  4. 4

    Bake Layers

Divide the batter evenly between the two prepared cake pans. Bake for 30-35 minutes or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean. Let cakes cool in pans for 10 minutes, then transfer to wire racks to cool completely.

Peanut Butter Filling

  1. 5

    Prepare Filling

In a mixing bowl, beat together creamy peanut butter, powdered sugar, softened butter, and vanilla extract until smooth and creamy.

Chocolate Ganache

  1. 6

    Heat Cream

In a saucepan over medium heat, bring the heavy cream to a simmer. Remove from heat.

  2. 7

    Add Chocolate

Add semisweet chocolate chips to the hot cream. Let sit for 5 minutes, then stir until smooth and glossy.

Assembly

  1. 8

    Layer Cake

Once the cake layers are completely cooled, place one layer on a serving plate. Spread the peanut butter filling evenly over the top.

  2. 9

    Top with Second Layer

Place the second cake layer on top of the peanut butter filling.

  3. 10

    Add Ganache

Pour the chocolate ganache over the top of the cake, allowing it to drip down the sides.

  4. 11

    Garnish

Sprinkle chopped Reese's Peanut Butter Cups over the top of the ganache. Serve with whipped cream on the side.
