Method
Haddock Preparation
- 1
Prepare the Batter
In a mixing bowl, combine the flour, cornstarch, baking powder, salt, and black pepper. Gradually whisk in the beer until the batter is smooth and free of lumps. Set aside.
- 2
Heat the Oil
In a deep frying pan or fryer, heat the vegetable oil over medium-high heat until it reaches 350°F (175°C).
- 3
Batter the Haddock
Dip each haddock fillet into the beer batter, ensuring it is fully coated.
- 4
Fry the Haddock
Carefully place the battered haddock fillets into the hot oil. Fry for 4-5 minutes, or until golden brown and crispy. Remove and place on paper towels to drain excess oil.
Fries Preparation
- 5
Prepare the Potatoes
Wash and peel the potatoes. Cut them into evenly sized fries, about 1/4 inch thick.
- 6
Heat the Oil
In a separate pot or fryer, heat the vegetable oil over medium-high heat until it reaches 350°F (175°C).
- 7
Fry the Potatoes
Carefully add the cut potatoes to the hot oil in batches, frying for about 5-7 minutes or until they are golden and crispy. Remove and place on paper towels to drain excess oil.
- 8
Season the Fries
Sprinkle with salt to taste while they are still hot.
