For the Plantain Bread

For Garnish

Method

Plantain Bread Preparation

  1. 1

    Peel and Slice Plantains

Carefully peel the green plantains and slice them into 1-inch thick pieces.

  2. 2

    Boil Plantains

In a large pot, boil the sliced plantains in salted water for about 15 minutes or until they are tender but not falling apart.

  3. 3

    Drain and Cool

Once boiled, drain the plantains and let them cool for a few minutes.

  4. 4

    Fry Plantains

Heat oil in a frying pan over medium heat. Flatten each piece of plantain with a heavy object (like a pan) and fry them in the hot oil until golden brown on both sides, about 3-4 minutes each side.

  5. 5

    Drain Excess Oil

Remove the fried plantains and let them drain on paper towels to absorb excess oil.

Sandwich Filling Preparation

  1. 6

    Marinate the Steak

Season the steak with garlic powder, onion powder, cumin, salt, and pepper. Allow to marinate for at least 30 minutes.

  2. 7

    Cook the Steak

In a skillet over medium-high heat, cook the marinated steak to your desired doneness, about 4-5 minutes per side. Let it rest before slicing.

  3. 8

    Prepare the Sandwich

On a plate, take one piece of fried plantain as the base, spread mayonnaise on top, layer with lettuce, sliced tomato, and the sliced steak. Top with another piece of fried plantain.

Garnishing the Sandwich

  1. 9

    Add Garnishes

Top the sandwich with sliced avocado and pickled jalapeños as desired.
