Method

Making the Caramel

  1. 1

    Prepare the Caramel

In a medium saucepan, combine the granulated sugar and water. Heat over medium heat, stirring gently until the sugar dissolves.

  2. 2

    Cook the Caramel

Once the sugar dissolves, stop stirring and allow it to boil until it turns a golden amber color, about 5-7 minutes. Remove from heat immediately to prevent burning.

  3. 3

    Pour the Caramel

Quickly pour the caramel into a flan mold or individual ramekins, tilting to coat the bottom evenly. Set aside to cool and harden.

Making the Flan

  1. 4

    Blend the Flan Base

In a blender, combine the sweetened condensed milk, evaporated milk, eggs, and vanilla extract. Blend until smooth and well combined.

  2. 5

    Pour the Flan Mixture

Carefully pour the flan mixture over the hardened caramel in the mold or ramekins.

  3. 6

    Prepare for Baking

Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Place the flan mold or ramekins in a larger baking dish and fill the outer dish with hot water halfway up the sides of the flan molds.

  4. 7

    Bake the Flan

Bake in the preheated oven for 50-60 minutes, or until the flan is set and a knife inserted in the center comes out clean.

  5. 8

    Cool and Serve

Once baked, remove the flan from the oven and let it cool in the water bath. Then refrigerate for at least 4 hours or overnight. To serve, run a knife around the edges, invert onto a plate, and enjoy!
