Preparation

  1. 1

    Marinate the Steak

In a large bowl, combine the soy sauce, lime juice, minced garlic, oregano, salt, and black pepper. Place the flank steak in the marinade, ensuring it is well-coated. Cover and refrigerate for at least 1 hour or overnight for best results.

  2. 2

    Slice the Onions

While the steak is marinating, peel and slice the onions into thin rings. Set aside.

Cooking

  1. 3

    Cook the Steak

Heat 2 tablespoons of olive oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Remove the steak from the marinade (reserve the marinade) and sear it in the skillet for about 5-7 minutes on each side, or until it reaches your desired level of doneness. Once cooked, remove the steak from the skillet and let it rest for 5 minutes before slicing.

  2. 4

    Cook the Onions

In the same skillet, add the remaining tablespoon of olive oil and the sliced onions. Sauté the onions for about 5-8 minutes, stirring occasionally, until they are soft and translucent. Pour the reserved marinade over the onions and cook for an additional 2-3 minutes, allowing the flavors to combine.

  3. 5

    Combine and Serve

Slice the rested steak against the grain and place it on a serving platter. Top the steak with the sautéed onions and marinade. Garnish with fresh cilantro and serve with lime wedges on the side.
