Method

Preparing the Carne Asada

  1. 1

    Marinate the Steak

In a bowl, combine olive oil, garlic powder, cumin, salt, and black pepper. Rub this mixture all over the flank steak. Let it marinate for at least 30 minutes.

  2. 2

    Grill the Steak

Preheat a grill or grill pan over medium-high heat. Grill the flank steak for about 6-8 minutes on each side for medium-rare, or until desired doneness. Remove from heat and let rest for 5 minutes.

  3. 3

    Slice the Steak

After resting, slice the steak thinly against the grain.

Assembling the Tostada

  1. 4

    Prepare Refried Beans

In a small pot, heat the canned refried beans over low heat until warmed through, stirring occasionally.

  2. 5

    Create Cheese Crust

On a baking sheet, place the corn tostada. Spread a thin layer of refried beans on top, then sprinkle the shredded cheese over the beans. Broil in the oven for 2-3 minutes until the cheese is melted and bubbly.

  3. 6

    Add Carne Asada

Remove the tostada from the oven and layer the sliced carne asada on top of the melted cheese.

Making Salsa Aguacatada

  1. 7

    Blend the Salsa

In a bowl, mash the avocado. Add lime juice, chopped cilantro, and salt. Mix until smooth and creamy.

Garnishing the Tostada

  1. 8

    Top with Garnishes

Sprinkle sliced red onion and fresh chopped cilantro over the carne asada and drizzle the salsa aguacatada on top.
