Main Ingredients

Method

Preparation

  1. 1

    Boil the Hibiscus Flowers

In a large pot, bring 4 cups of water to a boil. Once boiling, add 1 cup of dried hibiscus flowers to the pot.

  2. 2

    Simmer

Reduce the heat to low and let the hibiscus flowers simmer for about 15 minutes. Stir occasionally to ensure even brewing.

  3. 3

    Strain the Mixture

After 15 minutes, remove the pot from heat. Using a fine mesh strainer, strain the liquid into a large pitcher, discarding the hibiscus flowers.

  4. 4

    Sweeten the Drink

While the liquid is still warm, add 1 cup of sugar to the strained liquid. Stir well until the sugar is completely dissolved.

  5. 5

    Add Lime Juice

Stir in 1 tablespoon of fresh lime juice for added flavor.

  6. 6

    Chill

Let the agua de jamaica cool to room temperature, then refrigerate for at least 1 hour before serving.

  7. 7

    Serve

To serve, fill glasses with ice cubes and pour the chilled agua de jamaica over the ice. Optionally, garnish with fresh mint leaves.
