Flan Ingredients
Method
Preparation Directions
- 1
Make the Caramel
In a saucepan over medium heat, combine 1/2 cup of granulated sugar and 2 tablespoons of water. Stir until sugar dissolves and turns into a golden caramel. Quickly pour the caramel into a round flan mold or individual ramekins, tilting to coat the bottom evenly. Set aside to cool and harden.
- 2
Prepare the Flan Mixture
In a blender, combine sweetened condensed milk, evaporated milk, eggs, vanilla extract, and the remaining tablespoon of sugar. Blend until smooth and well combined.
- 3
Bake the Flan
Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Pour the flan mixture over the hardened caramel in the mold. Place the mold in a larger baking dish filled with hot water (a water bath) to help cook the flan evenly. Bake for 50-60 minutes, or until a knife inserted in the center comes out clean.
- 4
Cool and Serve
Remove the flan from the oven and allow it to cool in the water bath for about 30 minutes. Transfer to the refrigerator and chill for at least 4 hours or overnight. To serve, run a knife around the edges of the flan, invert onto a plate, and enjoy!
