Directions

  1. 1

    Prepare Sushi Rice

Rinse sushi rice under cold water until the water runs clear. Cook the rice according to package instructions. Once cooked, transfer to a bowl.

  2. 2

    Season Rice

In a small saucepan, heat rice vinegar, sugar, and salt until dissolved. Pour over the cooked rice and gently fold to combine. Allow to cool to room temperature.

  3. 3

    Prepare Nori Sheets

Cut each nori sheet into strips about 2 inches wide.

  4. 4

    Form Gunkan

Take a small amount of seasoned sushi rice and mold it into an oval shape. Wrap a strip of nori around the rice, leaving the top open.

  5. 5

    Add Salmon Roe

Carefully spoon salmon roe into the open top of the gunkan, allowing it to mound slightly.

  6. 6

    Garnish and Serve

Sprinkle toasted sesame seeds on top. Serve with wasabi and soy sauce on the side.
