Ingredients for Spaghetti Marinara
Method
Directions for Spaghetti Marinara
Cook Spaghetti
In a large pot, bring salted water to a boil. Add the spaghetti and cook according to package instructions until al dente, usually about 8-10 minutes. Stir occasionally to prevent sticking.
Prepare Marinara Sauce
While the spaghetti is cooking, heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Add finely chopped onion and minced garlic, sautéing until the onion is translucent, about 5 minutes.
Add Tomatoes and Seasoning
Pour in the canned crushed tomatoes, and add salt, black pepper, and sugar. Stir well to combine, and bring the sauce to a simmer. Let it cook, uncovered, for about 15-20 minutes, stirring occasionally.
Incorporate Basil
Once the sauce has thickened slightly, add the fresh basil leaves and stir. Cook for an additional 5 minutes to allow the flavors to meld.
Combine Spaghetti and Sauce
When the spaghetti is cooked, drain it and add it directly to the marinara sauce. Toss well to coat the spaghetti evenly with the sauce.
Serve
Serve hot, topped with freshly grated parmesan cheese and additional basil if desired.
