Calamari

Method

Calamari Preparation

  1. 1

    Prepare the Calamari

Begin by rinsing the cleaned calamari rings under cold water. Pat them dry with paper towels and set aside.

  2. 2

    Mix Dry Ingredients

In a large bowl, combine the all-purpose flour, cornstarch, salt, black pepper, garlic powder, and paprika. Mix until well combined.

  3. 3

    Set Up Breading Station

In another bowl, place the beaten egg. In a third bowl, add the panko bread crumbs.

  4. 4

    Bread the Calamari

Dip each calamari ring into the flour mixture, shaking off excess. Then, dip it into the beaten egg, followed by coating it with panko bread crumbs. Set aside on a plate.

  5. 5

    Heat Oil for Frying

In a deep pan or pot, heat the vegetable oil over medium-high heat until it reaches 180°C (350°F).

  6. 6

    Fry the Calamari

Carefully add the breaded calamari rings to the hot oil in batches. Fry until golden brown and crispy, about 2-3 minutes per batch. Remove with a slotted spoon and drain on paper towels.

Spicy Aioli Preparation

  1. 7

    Combine Ingredients

In a medium bowl, whisk together the mayonnaise, minced garlic, Sriracha sauce, lemon juice, and salt until smooth.

  2. 8

    Adjust Seasoning

Taste the aioli and adjust the seasoning with more salt or Sriracha if needed.

Serve

  1. 9

    Plate and Serve

Serve the crispy calamari hot with the spicy aioli on the side for dipping.
