Base Preparation

  1. 1

    Preheat the Oven

Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) to prepare for baking.

  2. 2

    Mix Dry Ingredients

In a large bowl, sift together the all-purpose flour, granulated sugar, cocoa powder, baking powder, and salt.

  3. 3

    Combine Wet Ingredients

In another bowl, whisk together the milk, vegetable oil, vanilla extract, and eggs until well blended.

  4. 4

    Combine Mixtures

Gradually add the wet ingredients to the dry ingredients, stirring until just combined. Do not overmix.

  5. 5

    Bake

Pour the batter into a greased 9x13 inch baking pan and bake in the preheated oven for 30-35 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.

  6. 6

    Cool the Cake

Allow the cake to cool in the pan for 10 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack to cool completely.

Frosting Preparation

  1. 7

    Beat the Butter

In a medium bowl, beat the unsalted butter with an electric mixer until creamy.

  2. 8

    Add Dry Ingredients

Gradually add the powdered sugar and cocoa powder, mixing on low speed until combined.

  3. 9

    Add Cream and Vanilla

Add the heavy cream and vanilla extract, then beat on high speed until the frosting is light and fluffy.

  4. 10

    Frost the Cake

Once the cake is completely cool, spread the frosting evenly over the top using a spatula.
