Prepare the Pickles
Drain the dill pickle slices and pat them dry with paper towels.

Make the Batter
In a large bowl, combine the flour, cornmeal, garlic powder, onion powder, cayenne pepper, salt, and black pepper. Mix well.

Coat the Pickles
Dip each pickle slice into the buttermilk, then dredge it in the flour mixture until well coated.

Heat the Oil
In a deep skillet or frying pan, heat the vegetable oil to 350°F (175°C).

Fry the Pickles
Carefully place the coated pickle slices in the hot oil, frying in batches until golden brown and crispy, about 2-3 minutes per side.

Drain and Serve
Remove the fried pickles from the oil and drain on paper towels. Serve hot with ranch dressing on the side.
