Cooking Instructions

  1. 1

    Rinse the Rice

Place the basmati rice in a fine-mesh strainer and rinse under cold running water until the water runs clear. This helps to remove excess starch and prevents the rice from being sticky.

  2. 2

    Soak the Rice

Transfer the rinsed rice to a bowl and cover it with water. Let it soak for at least 30 minutes. This step is optional but helps to achieve a better texture.

  3. 3

    Cook the Rice

In a medium saucepan, combine the soaked rice, 2 cups of fresh water, and salt. If using, add butter or oil. Bring to a boil over medium-high heat.

  4. 4

    Simmer

Once boiling, reduce the heat to low, cover the saucepan with a lid, and let it simmer for 15-20 minutes or until the water is absorbed and the rice is tender.

  5. 5

    Fluff and Serve

Remove the saucepan from heat and let it sit covered for another 5-10 minutes. Fluff the rice with a fork before serving.
