Prepare the Tomato Sauce
Start by preparing the crushed San Marzano tomato sauce.
Season the Sauce
Add the dried oregano and salt to the tomato mixture. Bring the sauce to a simmer and let it cook for about 15 minutes, stirring occasionally. This will help the flavors meld together.
Add Fresh Basil
In the last 5 minutes of cooking, tear the fresh basil leaves and stir them into the sauce. Remove from heat and set aside.
Preheat Oven
While the sauce is simmering, preheat your oven to 475°F (245°C) to ensure it’s hot enough to cook the pizza properly.
Prepare the Pizza Dough
Roll out the pizza dough on a floured surface to a 14-inch round. Transfer the dough to a pizza stone or baking sheet lined with parchment paper.
Assemble the Pizza
Spread an even layer of the prepared tomato sauce over the pizza dough, leaving a small border around the edges. Evenly sprinkle the shredded mozzarella cheese on top of the sauce.
Bake the Pizza
Place the pizza in the preheated oven and bake for 12-15 minutes, or until the crust is golden brown and the cheese is bubbling.
Cool and Slice
Once baked, remove the pizza from the oven and let it cool for a few minutes. Slice into wedges and serve hot.
