Frites Ingredients

Method

Frites Preparation

  1. 1

    Prepare the Potatoes

Peel the Russet potatoes and cut them into long, thin strips to create frites. Rinse the cut potatoes in cold water to remove excess starch.

  2. 2

    Soak the Potatoes

Place the cut potatoes in a bowl of cold water and soak for at least 30 minutes. This helps to make them crispier.

  3. 3

    Drain and Dry

After soaking, drain the potatoes and pat them dry using paper towels. Ensure they are as dry as possible to prevent oil splatter.

  4. 4

    Heat the Oil

In a deep fryer or a heavy pot, heat the vegetable oil over medium-high heat until it reaches 350°F (175°C).

  5. 5

    Fry the Potatoes

Carefully add a handful of the dried potato strips to the hot oil. Fry in batches for about 4-5 minutes until golden brown and crispy. Remove and place on a paper towel-lined plate.

  6. 6

    Season

While the frites are still hot, sprinkle with salt, black pepper, garlic powder, and paprika to taste.

  7. 7

    Serve

Serve the crispy frites immediately with your favorite dipping sauce.
