Fried Oysters

Method

Preparation

  1. 1

    Prepare the Buttermilk Mixture

In a bowl, combine the buttermilk with salt, black pepper, garlic powder, and onion powder. Mix well.

  2. 2

    Soak the Oysters

Place the oysters in the buttermilk mixture and let them soak for at least 30 minutes.

  3. 3

    Prepare the Breading

In a separate bowl, mix together the all-purpose flour and cornstarch.

  4. 4

    Heat the Oil

In a large pot, heat the oil over medium-high heat until it reaches 350°F (175°C).

  5. 5

    Bread the Oysters

Remove the oysters from the buttermilk, letting the excess drip off. Dredge each oyster in the flour-cornstarch mixture until fully coated.

  6. 6

    Fry the Oysters

Carefully place the breaded oysters in the hot oil, frying in batches to avoid overcrowding. Fry for about 3-4 minutes until golden brown and crispy.

  7. 7

    Drain and Serve

Remove the fried oysters from the oil and place them on a paper towel-lined plate to drain excess oil. Serve hot with ramp & yogurt ranch and pickled chili peppers.
