Method
Prepare the Protein
- 1
For Ground Beef
In a skillet over medium heat, add the ground beef. Cook until browned, breaking it apart with a spatula.
- 2
For Chicken
In a pot, boil the chicken breast until fully cooked (about 15-20 minutes). Shred the chicken using two forks.
- 3
For Black Beans
Open the can of black beans, drain, and rinse. Heat in a saucepan over medium heat until warmed through.
- 4
For Tofu
Press the tofu to remove excess moisture. Cut into cubes and sauté in a skillet with a little oil until golden brown.
Season the Protein
- 5
Sprinkle the taco seasoning (chili powder, cumin, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and black pepper) over the protein of your choice. Stir well to combine and cook for an additional 2-3 minutes to blend the flavors.
Prepare Taco Shells
- 6
If using soft tortillas, warm them in a skillet or microwave for a few seconds until soft. If using crispy taco shells, bake them according to package instructions until heated.
Assemble Tacos
- 7
Take a taco shell and fill it with your choice of protein. Top with shredded lettuce, diced tomatoes, shredded cheese, and a dollop of sour cream. Add sliced jalapeños and fresh cilantro to taste.
