Directions

  1. 1

    Prepare the Smoked Cedar

Soak the smoked cedar wood chips in water for about 30 minutes. This will help to create a flavorful smoke when heated.

  2. 2

    Create the Smoke

After soaking, drain the chips and place them in a smoking box or a small piece of aluminum foil. Heat them over medium heat on a stovetop or grill until they start to smoke.

  3. 3

    Mix the Cocktail

In a mixing glass, combine the Basil Hayden Bourbon, Angostura bitters, orange bitters, and simple syrup. Add ice cubes and stir well until the mixture is chilled.

  4. 4

    Smoke the Glass

Using a smoking gun or your smoking box, fill the glass with smoke and let it sit for a minute to infuse the smoke flavor.

  5. 5

    Strain the Cocktail

Remove the smoke from the glass and strain the chilled cocktail mixture into the smoked glass.

  6. 6

    Garnish

Garnish the drink with a slice of orange peel and a maraschino cherry. Optionally, express the orange peel over the drink to release its oils.
