Churro Dough

Method

Churro Dough Preparation

  1. 1

    Boil Water

In a medium saucepan, combine the water, granulated sugar, salt, and vegetable oil. Bring the mixture to a boil over medium heat.

  2. 2

    Add Flour

Once the mixture is boiling, remove it from heat and add the all-purpose flour. Stir vigorously with a wooden spoon until the dough forms a ball and pulls away from the sides of the saucepan.

  3. 3

    Incorporate Eggs

Let the dough cool slightly, then add the eggs one at a time, mixing well after each addition until the dough is smooth and glossy.

  4. 4

    Prepare for Frying

In a separate bowl, combine the cinnamon and additional granulated sugar. Set aside for coating the churros later.

Frying Churros

  1. 5

    Heat Oil

In a deep frying pan or pot, heat the vegetable oil over medium-high heat until it reaches 350°F (175°C).

  2. 6

    Pipe Churros

Transfer the churro dough to a piping bag fitted with a large star tip. Carefully pipe strips of dough (about 6 inches long) into the hot oil.

  3. 7

    Fry Churros

Fry the churros until they are golden brown, about 2-3 minutes per side. Use tongs to turn them as necessary.

  4. 8

    Drain and Coat

Once fried, remove the churros from the oil and let them drain on paper towels. While still warm, roll the churros in the cinnamon sugar mixture to coat.

Chocolate Sauce Preparation

  1. 9

    Heat Cream

In a small saucepan, heat the heavy cream over medium heat until it is just about to simmer, but do not let it boil.

  2. 10

    Add Chocolate

Remove the saucepan from heat and add the semisweet chocolate chips. Let it sit for a minute to melt the chocolate.

  3. 11

    Whisk Until Smooth

Whisk the mixture until the chocolate is completely melted and the sauce is smooth. Stir in the vanilla extract.
