Outer Space Onion Blossom Ingredients
Method
Outer Space Onion Blossom Directions
- 1
Prepare the Onion
Peel the onion and cut off the top half, leaving the root intact. Make 12-16 cuts downwards towards the root, creating petals. Gently separate the petals without breaking them.
- 2
Make the Breading
In a bowl, mix together the flour, cornstarch, cayenne pepper, paprika, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and black pepper.
- 3
Prepare the Buttermilk Mixture
In another bowl, pour the buttermilk and set aside.
- 4
Coat the Onion
Dip the prepared onion into the buttermilk mixture, allowing excess to drip off. Then, dredge it in the breading mixture, ensuring all petals are coated.
- 5
Heat the Oil
In a large pot, heat the vegetable oil to 350°F (175°C).
- 6
Fry the Onion
Carefully place the coated onion into the hot oil and fry for 8-10 minutes or until golden brown and crispy. Remove and drain on paper towels.
- 7
Make the Cajun Ranch Sauce
In a small bowl, combine the mayonnaise, ranch dressing mix, and hot sauce. Mix well.
- 8
Serve
Serve the Outer Space Onion Blossom with the Cajun ranch sauce on the side for dipping.
