Method

Preparation of Beef

  1. 1

    For Raw Beef Laab

In a bowl, combine the ground beef with fish sauce. Mix gently to ensure the beef is well-coated. Let it sit at room temperature for about 15 minutes to allow the flavors to meld.

  2. 2

    For Cooked Beef Laab

In a skillet over medium heat, add the ground beef. Cook until browned and fully cooked, about 5-7 minutes. Drain excess fat, then mix in the fish sauce.

Combining Ingredients

  1. 3

In a large mixing bowl, add the cooked or raw beef (whichever method you chose).

  2. 4

Chop the fresh mint and cilantro leaves coarsely, then add them to the beef.

  3. 5

Finely chop the green onions and bird chilies and add them to the mixture.

  4. 6

Sprinkle the roasted rice powder and sugar over the mixture.

  5. 7

Pour the lime juice over the entire mixture and toss gently until everything is well combined.

Serving

  1. 8

Taste and adjust seasoning with more fish sauce or lime juice as needed.

  2. 9

Serve the laab on a platter or in individual bowls. It can be enjoyed on its own or with sticky rice.
